How to adjust the universal remote control for TV: connection, automatic and manual adjustment

1

Many of us still remember the days when in order to change the TV channel, you had to get up from your chair. You could switch channels in ascending or descending order, using a few buttons, usually located directly under the TV screen.

Fortunately, technology has advanced, offering us not only higher picture quality, but also more comfortable TV control. We used to switch channels at the touch of a button, which required only a suitable remote control.

But in our time technology has advanced even further and now we don't even need a special remote from the manufacturer. It's enough to buy a universal remote, it works the same way on Samsung TV, as well as on TVs from LG or Erisson.

Universal remote control and its functionality

A television on its own is an increasingly rare sight these days.

Modern models with built-in tuners reach their full potential only when paired with other equipment. This is the only way to take advantage of all the features in the TV software.

You can connect it, for example, to an external audio system (with receiver and speakers), to a CD/DVD or Blu-ray player, as well as various types of TV signal decoders. However, this set of external devices includes many pieces of equipment, each with its own control panel on the cabinet.

The Universal Remote Control (URC) allows you to control most of these devices from the same buttons.

Modern multifunction remotes are adapted to work with many types of devices, even if they are from different manufacturers. This means that you can also use your universal remote to remotely control your decoder, soundbar, external player - and more.

How the universal remote differs from the original remote

Unlike the original remote for your TV, the universal remote from Dexp, Gal, Rolsen and other manufacturers can control multiple devices simultaneously. It not only works well with your TV, but also with different types of set-top boxes, DVD and Blu-ray players, game consoles and other equipment.

The functionality of such a remote control depends on both its factory settings and on the control parameters you have entered.

Basic remote control settings determine compatibility with various devices and also affect the ability to work with certain brands of equipment. They are usually adapted to control the equipment of all the most popular manufacturers of TVs and related equipment.

To make sure the remote control is compatible with your devices, read the manual or product datasheet.

However, the fact that the remote control is compatible with a large number of devices does not mean that it will work automatically as soon as it is turned on.

Although this gadget is programmed to work on a wide variety of devices, activating this feature requires proper setup. This, too, makes the universal remote different from the classic original remote controls.

How to manually configure a universal remote control for your TV

If you've purchased a new UDPU model along with your set-top box, you can also use it to control your TV, such as changing channels or adjusting the volume to suit your current needs.

The remote control will also help you change the TV signal mode to enable, for example, playing a movie from physical media with a DVD or Blu-ray player, or switching to a game console.

Below you will find an example of a basic setup, but note that these settings may vary depending on the remote control manufacturer.

Please refer to the manual provided with the remote control or the manufacturer's website for the specific steps required to configure your particular model.

  1. Be sure to turn on the TV and insert the batteries into the universal remote before starting the setup process.
  2. The next step is to check the brand of the set-top box. You will find the codes (usually one- or two-digit) corresponding to individual manufacturers in the manual provided with the UDPA.
  3. Then press and hold down the signal source button (marked, for example, as TV, CBL-SAT or marked with a house icon) - after a few seconds you will notice the reaction of the remote control in the form of backlighting of the buttons.
  4. Now turn on the corresponding mode on your set-top box.

Depending on the type of remote control and TV software, you may need to hold down the auto restart button for a while.

In other cases, the setup can be completed with a separate key listed in the manual. It is also possible that you may need to restart the unit manually to complete the setup correctly, if this is also indicated in the manual.

Some models of set-top boxes will automatically signal the successful completion of the setup with a corresponding text message, which will be displayed on the TV screen. In other situations you will have to check the connection yourself.

First of all, make sure that all functions of the remote control are working properly, for example, check how the channel change or volume level buttons work, walk through the menu interface.

If all or some of the functions don't work as you want them to, you may have set them up incorrectly. Again, read the manual carefully and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Also make sure that the power supply for the remote is working properly - maybe the batteries are not properly installed or are low.

How to configure a universal remote control on Smart TV

A TV set-top box is a device that provides digital television reception on the principle of Smart TV.

Many modern TVs have a built-in set-top box, but most users purchase a separate set-top box to access other features in addition to TV channels. External set-top boxes that can be connected to the TV provide many additional features - for example, stopping, recording and subsequent playback of live programs.

A set-top box usually comes with a power supply. You'll also need a special cable (usually HDMI, but it can also be Component Video or SCART) to connect the device to the TV - but it's not always included, so make sure you have all the necessary items before installing.

Some manufacturers also offer kits that include a remote control designed to control the set-top box itself.

Before setting up the universal remote, connect the set-top box to the TV. To do this, it is sufficient to use a pre-prepared cable connection.

And don't forget that the TV also needs to be set up. Using the menu interface, set up the reception of channels from an external source, which is a set-top box. The next step is to pair the remote control with the new device.

How to do automatic tuning

Any modern TV models are programmed to automatically tune the universal remote control when it is connected.

To start the automatic setup process, do the following:

  1. Connect the device you want to set up via HDMI and start it up.
  2. The TV automatically recognizes the connected device and automatically configures the universal remote control. It may take a few seconds to complete the setup of the universal remote control.
  3. Now you can use the default settings, or you can add more custom settings and optimize the remote control for your own needs.

Keep in mind that in some models the universal remote control can only be set up after converting the input signal of the connected device.

In addition, some devices simply do not support automatic setting of the remote control, and you will have to set it manually.

6

Codes for the universal remote control

Each manufacturer has its own unique code for manual tuning of the universal remote control.

How to adjust the universal remote control for different TVs

Different models of universal remotes have their own pairing algorithms, so before starting the configuration, it will be useful to look in the user manual of the device.

Consider a few examples of such algorithms from different manufacturers.

Supra

UDPU from the manufacturer Supra is one of the best options for controlling TVs from Samsung, LG, Philips and many others. The sequence of steps for setting up the remote is the same in all - new and old versions of the model.

Automatic configuration:

  1. Plug the TV into the network.
  2. Point the UDPU at the TV.
  3. Press and hold the "POWER" button for about six seconds until the remote control gives a signal in the form of a light.
  4. If the pairing is successful, the volume icon appears on the TV. After that, just press the "POWER" button again and you can use the remote control.

Manual Tuning:

If the automatic setting of the remote was not completed normally, try setting it manually. To do this, you will need the model code of the TV, which you can find in the table above.

So, the setup is done as follows:

  1. Turn on the TV to the mains.
  2. Point the universal remote at the screen.
  3. Press and hold down the "POWER" button, then enter the TV code.
  4. When the remote control indicator light beeps, you can release the "POWER" button.
  5. After that, check if the remote control works. If all buttons do not work correctly, try entering a different code.

HUAYU

This remote control model can be interfaced with almost all TV sets, not only with modern TV sets, but also with old ones. In particular, you can use the HUAYU remote control to control LCD and LED TVs. On older analog TVs, of course, the universal remote control will not work.

To configure the remote, follow the instructions:

  • Press two buttons on the remote at the same time: "POWER" and "SET". This will start the debug mode of the remote control. In this mode the indicator on the universal remote control should be permanently lit.
  • Using the "VOL" button enter the appropriate commands and, if necessary, enter the code.
  • By pressing the "SET" button you will exit the debugging mode.

9

Beeline

Another popular manufacturer, the models of which UPDU have their own advantages and disadvantages.

The most famous object of criticism of Beeline devices is that they are guaranteed to pair only with TVs connected to set-top boxes. In addition, older models of remotes did not have a "SETUP" button.

But with the new models there is no such problem and in terms of functionality they are not inferior to the same HUAYU.

So, to pair the Beeline remote control with the TV do the following:

  1. Turn on the TV.
  2. Press and hold down the "C" and "SETUP" buttons on the remote control.
  3. Wait for the setup to complete.
  4. After the LED blinks twice, release the buttons.
  5. Check if the remote control works correctly by pressing the different buttons. If not, adjust it manually.
If you have any questions about the algorithm for setting the universal remote control, refer to the instruction manual, which should come with the device.
